Main Event History
In 2012, Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties collaborated with another community based organization, Shared Blessings, to create our first annual fundraising dinner and auction called The Main Event. Shared Blessings is a local organization that raises funds for a variety of charitable causes in the area and agreed to assist our non profit agency in raising money and awareness for our mission.
The event was held on November 9 at Glenmoor Country Club. The theme for the event was “Give Hunger the Boot,” complete with a Western-style menu and Western décor, and provided us with an opportunity to raise money and to recognize three pioneers who were instrumental in forming what became Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties: Bill Belden, Stan Cmich and Jane Schirack.
The fun filled evening included silent and live auctions and helped our agency to raise over $100,000 to benefit the homebound and disabled individuals in our two county service area.
On Friday, November 8, 2013 we held our second annual “Main Event” fundraiser at the Alex D. Krassas Event Center in Canton. Our theme was “Tackling Hunger for 40 Years” in honor of our region’s football heritage and to celebrate the 4 decades Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties has provided meals to the homebound and nutritionally at risk members of our community.
The event paid tribute to the Aultman Health Foundation, a partner in the community who has helped us carry out our mission to provide meals in a social or home setting, to assist individuals in remaining healthy, active, and independent of extended care facilities.
Close to 300 people attended the event helping to raise over $120,000 for the agency.
The third annual “Main Event” fundraiser was held on November 7, 2014 at the Alex D. Krassas Event Center in Canton. The theme of the event was “Hunger Doesn’t Take a Holiday.” We were proud to celebrate the gifts of nutrition, volunteers, and a very generous community this year.
The event paid tribute to AEP Ohio and Certified Angus Beef LLC, as partners in the community who have helped us carry out our mission to provide meals in a social or home setting, to assist individuals in remaining healthy, active, and independent of extended care facilities. Both companies participated in our “Adopt-A-Route” program.
We also recognized Mary Mears at the event as our Volunteer Honoree. Mary has been delivering meals for us for over 35 years.
This year’s sold-out Main Event fundraiser “Stomp Out Hunger” was the most successful yet!
The wine-casual event was held on November 13, 2015 at the Alex D. Krassas Center in Canton, and the agency is proud to announce that the fundraiser exceeded its goal of $135,000.
With three hundred guests in attendance, the fundraiser was a sold-out event. For those who attended, there was delicious food, excellent wine, unique prizes, and the best company to be had.
The Main Event proudly recognized its Honorees, PPi Graphics, United Grinding, and Progressive Auto Group, for giving Meals on Wheels their unsolicited and endless support year-after-year. Volunteer Honorees, Don and Jean Joliat, were awarded for their extraordinary efforts and willingness to help Meals on Wheels.
