Meals on Wheels of Stark & Wayne
Counties has been serving homebound and nutritionally at risk
individuals by providing home delivered meals and congregate dining for nearly
35 years.
Established in 1973 as the "Stark/Wayne Nutrition Project,"
it was a direct service of United Way of Central Stark County. In the course of
its affiliation with United Way, the program underwent a second name change and
became known as "Three Score Dining", remaining with that moniker
until October 1991, when it became an independent agency and adopted the Meals
on Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties name.
Until 1997, Meals On Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties was a
"catered" company purchasing prepared meals through a caterer, who transported
them to our satellite nutrition sites in Stark and Wayne counties. Site
Coordinators then finished the preparation and packaging for individual
delivery. The Spring of 1997 saw the completion of a specially designed
commissary, unique to this area. The menu is planned by our staff dietitian and
prepared by our staff professionals, meeting and exceeding all guidelines
recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
